Rochester to be recognized by NLC again!

Another area where we are a national model.  Active living is one of the best ways we be a world class community in a future with a much older population.

Dear Ms. Baker,

Congratulations!  The National League of Cities is pleased to accept your application for the Active Living Rochester program to be one of 36 participants in the 2011 NLC City Showcase.  We have been very impressed with the quality and breadth of innovative programs that have applied to this year’s Showcase.  Experts on staff at NLC have carefully reviewed each application in search of applicants that together make up a geographically and topically diverse group of programs.

As a City Showcase participant, your opportunities for networking and recognition will begin at the NLC Congress of Cities and Exposition, November 9-12 in Phoenix, Ariz.  An area has been reserved for your program in the City Showcase area of the Exhibit Hall, where you will display your materials and engage with conference attendees to discuss your innovative program implementation strategies, successes and lessons learned.  The City Showcase programs we’ve selected will be highlighted in the conference program book and will be recognized publicly during conference events.  In addition, you may be invited by NLC staff to share your expertise as part of other conference activities.

In order to help you attend this year’s conference and participate in City Showcase activities there, NLC will cover the cost of conference registration for two people who are knowledgeable about the program and who will engage with conference attendees as they visit the Showcase area.  In addition, Southwest Airlines, the official sponsor of the 2011 City Showcase, will provide travel free of charge for the two program staff who will be attending the conference.  Should travel from your location via Southwest Airlines not be feasible, NLC will help cover the cost for you to travel to the conference.  Additional scholarships may be available to cover the cost of lodging and materials shipping.

Over the next several months, you will be receiving further information from us, including information about conference registration (do not register online—we will send you a special City Showcase registration form), travel, lodging, and material shipping procedures.  We will also work with you to determine the most engaging and effective way to present your program to the audience.  This may include, but is not limited to, pop-up displays, videos, demonstrations, handouts or scheduled informal presentations.

Until you hear from me again, please feel free to contact me with questions.  I look forward to working with you on this year’s City Showcase!
