Goal: Create GLBT equality policy
Grade: A
Commentary: Credit to Mayor Brede for bringing this forward. The Ordinance passed by a 6-1 margin with only Bruce Snyder opposing the registry. While this applies equally to same sex and opposite sex couples, it represents the only local option for same sex partners. Though largely symbolic, Rochester sent a powerful message to the rest of our region and nation that Rochester is a welcoming and inclusive community. We will not stand for bigotry and intolerance on our community. Just like our largest employers, IBM and Mayo, we respect our citizens regardless of their sexual orientation and welcome them to be part of our community. The best part of this process was the tremendous outpouring of support from our citizens and religious communities.
