SPLASH INTO A WATER ART EXHIBIT AS THE NEW CASCADE MEADOWS
SCIENCE CENTER OPENS ITS DOORS
The greatly anticipated Cascade Meadow Wetlands & Environmental Science Center will open
its doors for a special art exhibit, which kicks off this Friday, November 19th. The Center is
dedicated to “ connecting people and communities through water, energy, and sustainability
education” and will serve as a regional resource for environmental education. Five new indoor
exhibits that focus on water, energy and wetlands have been installed with more planned in
2011 and 2012. Outdoors are a number of demonstration areas including wind and solar power,
pervious pavers, raingardens, green roofs and much more. The center is located at 2900 19th
Street NW next to the Rochester Athletic Club.
The art exhibition, “Women and Water Rights: Rivers of Regeneration” will open this Friday at
7:00 p.m. and will run weekends through the December 12th. The art exhibit features a diverse
array of two- and three-dimensional art pieces by regional, national and international artists
focused on water issues. The opening “splash,” as organizers are calling it, will be a special
opportunity to meet some of the artists, get a preview of the exhibit, enjoy light appetizers and
purchase drinks. For this event only, there is a $5.00 entrance fee.
During the exhibit’s duration, there will also be several water-themed events including
performance artists, poets, singers and speakers. The exhibition is sponsored by the Water
Matters coalition, a group dedicated to raising general awareness about the importance of water
at the local level and beyond. Visit www.zumbrowatershed.org for exhibit and event hours.
I’m sad that I will be out of town.
