First an update, while the weather in May and June was not particularly nice for us humans, it was great for newly planted trees. As such I checked a few streets up in the NW and it appears that better than 95% of the trees are doing well. This is good news after much poorer numbers last year in the Country Club Manor area, in part due to vandals.
I was sent an analysis by 3 students (Peggy Buehler, Neomi Runyon, Holly Berg) who looked at how much money we saved by doing a community planting. In short, this is a great way to plant trees and improve neighborhoods. I fully expect they got an “A.”
Please join me on March 2nd to learn about the future of Uptown and have your voice heard. One thing you won’t hear at this meeting is new spending. This project and concept can be almost entirely completed with existing planned projects and private dollars unlike other projects which require millions in new infrastructure subsidies.
I know that this is short notice, but if you are looking to participate in a discussion on crime in Rochester you can do so Friday, February 11 at 2:00 PM. Just follow the link below. I will be a part of a panel discussing the topic.
The League of Women Voters will be hosting an event: Voter IDs? What’s it all about? These events are always informative and well done. I will be attending if I can get out of another meeting early enough. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m the new community relationship manager at MPR and I wish there were
time to talk to each of you about your experience with crime and public
safety in Rochester. I’m hopeful you’ll be able to attend our free
event at the Mayo Civic Center Tues, Feb. 1 (7-8:30 with a free
reception + food before). I hope you can find time to RSVP and perhaps
even send me a call or email with your thoughts and perspectives.
I also hope you’ll print, forward, distribute the flyer Renee attached
(I’ll attach it again) so we can have as lively and diverse and audience
as possible in the interest of making real progress on the issue.
Please do call or email if you have questions, thoughts,
suggestions…and thanks to Renee for all the help so far. Look forward
to meeting many of you in person.

Assistant City Administrator Gary Neumann asked me to communicate this meeting. I would strongly encourage EVERY citizen to attend this meeting and will advertise this vial all my networks. We need to pack this place. There are some that think that Red Wing is more important to the future of Minnesota than Rochester, lets fix that fallacy… Read the rest of this entry »
