Mayo Civic Center Art

I had a number of questions on Mayo Civic Center Art Installation. I figured I would get ahead of this and ask staff to prepare the history of the installation.

I believe every council vote was unanimous, I believe public comment related to these approved decisions were in favor.

I am not an artist, I am not qualified to judge art, but I am supportive of public art. I am supportive of integrating art with civic capital projects and the 1% for the arts is a common national model.

Last thought, if you don’t like the art, welcome to the history of ever art piece ever made. If you don’t like the process let me know what you would change or choose to participate in these public meetings. If you think public art is a waste of money, I disagree and that is not a city I want to live in. But if you want to be upset about something; check out the multi-million dollar Kitchen the business community told us we needed but now sits empty.

Thank you to Donna Drews who put this timeline together.
